Mr. Donald L. Metzler
Dear Students, Parents and Grandparents,
The 2019-2020 school year has started and another outstanding year is expected at Callisburg ISD. Working with you at every grade level will produce great accomplishments for our students. The education of a child is a partnership between parents and school. Working with you, we have up to fourteen years to prepare your child to become a productive law abiding citizen of this great country. Along the way, there will be some setbacks and with each one, we hope to mold the child into a stronger person that understands right from wrong, freedoms and rights have responsibilities, and how to cope with an ever-changing world in order to be successful. We encourage all of you to work with us in providing your child a strong educational and emotional foundation.
The year brings some changes in staff. Mr. Ronnie Wilson has retired as high school principal and returned in a part-time role as an administrative assistant at the middle and high school. Mr. Jason Hooper has moved from the elementary principal’s role to the high school principal’s role. Mrs. Lisa Herring was promoted from assistant principal to principal at the elementary campus. Mrs. Heather Wheeler has moved from her eighth grade math teaching position to the role of assistant principal at the elementary. We have added several new teachers and coaches. I hope you get the chance to meet all of them and welcome them into the Wildcat Family.
The legislature met last spring and produced many new rules and regulations for public schools. The list is a long one. The funding of public schools was completely overhauled. The state promised to pay for a larger share of public education. This resulted in our school district lowering your property tax rate seven cents for the upcoming year and we are expected to lower that another four cents in 2020-2021! We will continue to be fiscally responsible with your tax dollars.
We are starting the year with five bus driving positions unfilled and are filling them with coaches, teachers and administrators who have their bus driving certifications. Please contact us if you have a desire to become a bus driver. The tight job market of Cooke County has made it very difficult to find qualified drivers.
The district has a new website this year. Please check it out to keep track of the many events happening within the district. The web address is www.cisdtx.net. We are also adding a Facebook page that we hope you will join to keep up on the latest accomplishments and emergency announcements throughout the school year.
The Callisburg Athletic Booster Club is in full gear again this year and looking for parent volunteers. The need for parents of our athletes to volunteer their time in the concession stands is critical in providing a quality product at each home event for our visitors and local fans. We are asking parents of athletes to work 2-3 games a year in order to prevent overworking anyone. Middle school parents could volunteer to work Junior Varsity or Varsity games. Parents of high school athletes could volunteer to work the middle school events. This allows all parents to donate their time and still watch their own child perform! The funds generated at these home games is spent on the student athletes. With your help, we can have the best athletic booster club in the area! Please consider volunteering your time to benefit your student athlete and all of the other student athletes.
Finally, it is my goal to see all of us working together to produce an outstanding educational opportunity for the students of Callisburg ISD. I look forward to working with you to accomplish this goal.
For the Children,
Donald L. Metzler
