Students that have taken a Family Consumer Science class or are currently in a class are eligible to join FCCLA.  The Dues are $25.00 for membership which includes an FCCLA t-shirt.  Students will be given a Registration form in class or they can come by room 105 for a copy.  The deadline for dues will be Sept. 16, 2016.  If you have a financial need and cannot pay the dues, please let me know.  I will check with the administration to see if we have funds to assist you.  I want as many students to be able to participate as possible.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences Education  as determined by the state department of education.  FCCLA has 200,000 members and more than 5,500 chapters from 50 state associations, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.  The organization has involved more than 10 million people since its founding in 1945.

FCCLA: The Ultimate Leadership Experience is unique among youth organizations  because its programs are planned and run by members.  It is the only career and technical in-school student organization with family as its central focus.  Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers and communities.

We had a great start for our local FCCLA at Callisburg last year.  We want to give the students every opportunity to give back to their families and the community. I have some exciting projects planned for this group.  Our first field trip will be to feed the homeless at the Dallas Salvation Army. I have taken

a group to the Salvation Army since 2007.  Every year our students come back changed.  I have never had a student say they didn't want to return the following year.  This trip and the lessons they learn seems to light a fire within the students to return home and continue giving to members of the community.

In the fall, the FCCLA conducted our annual Battle of the Boot Food Drive. Instead of the traditional competition between each second period class, we conducted the competition between the middle school and high school. The winners of the 2016 Battle of the Boot are the high schoolers! Congrats guys!

I will add more FCCLA news as the year progresses.

Towards the end of the school year, we are planning on taking a field trip to highlight hospitality in our community and state. As soon as we get final details, we'll contact everyone. :)
